Estonian Search Dog Club
Search and rescue dogs training seminar
Search and rescue dogs training seminar
Time: 04-08. June 2012 (from 5 pm till 10 pm)
Location: Harku parish, Harju county
Trainers: Teus Tijsseling and Frans Vermeulen (Netherlands)
During seminar trainer will focus at 3 areas:
Search - How the handler and the dog search the area (as a team). Focus on dog taking distance and dog's directability by handler.
Scent - How dog cleans area to detect hidden person and how handler reads his dog. Difference with visual, active and passive hidden person.
Find- Focus at Find & Bark (or other signal system). Training will focus on dog taking leadership when victim has been found and not being distracted.
Training will start with find, then scent and in the end with search. When we do search we use maps, GPS (handler + dog) & anenometer for evaluation.
At the SAR seminar trainer will try to detect weak points of each team and in evaluation give every combination traininggoal and method to work on in future to improve overall quality of each handler-dog team. Most important is that trainer looks at combination and not only dog: trainer pays attention to dog and to handler.
Each participant will need to bring with them: own compass, GPS and survival stuff.

IPO-R seminar was held
On the 27-28 of April 2012 IPO-R training workshop was held on the new testing standards organized by ESDC. IRO trainer Dr Isabella Kühn from Germany introduced the changes of the new rules during the two days. In total nearly 25 dog handlers from Estonia and Finland participated in the seminar. On the first day we had an overview of the obedience and dexterity part and on the second day the focus was on area search tactics. The participants had the opportunity to test themselves in a real test situation. After all the event was a very useful just prior to the season.
Biggest thanks to Katrin, Jaakko and Kristi for perfectly organized seminar!
